Writing

I'm an avid writer of research-based materials

ARTICLES ABOUT YOUTH

I write online and print articles about healthy youth development, parenting, teaching, and building communities that help young people thrive in school and life.

NONPROFIT RESOURCES

I review and write organizational brochures, training materials, and websites that seek a foundation in positive youth development theory and principles.

GRANT RESEARCH

I review and add relevant research references to nonprofit grant proposals that seek to support projects and programs that help children develop into healthy and engaged young adults.

I've been a freelance writer and researcher for a variety of publications and organizations, and currently devote my efforts in the three focus-areas above.

Writing Experience

I’ve written hundreds of articles and helped numerous organizations with small and large writing projects.

  • Please view my articles for parents, teachers, and youth mentors at Roots of Action, a website I founded in 2011, now with over 2 million readers. Articles tackle how to grow supportive families, innovative workers, engaged citizens, and ethical leaders in the Digital Age.
  • I’ve been a contributing writer at Psychology Today since 2011. Please view my collection of articles that intersect the fields of child development, neuroscience, education, and parenting.
  • I’ve written a series of articles for teachers at Edutopia, a website sponsored by the George Lucas Education Foundation, that has been shared more than 50,000 times on social media.

In addition to the articles above, here are some examples of freelance projects, including a few organizations I’ve worked with to help them produce written materials.
